I’m a bad pug parent.
For the past little bit, Belle has been driving Kim and I nuts. She’s been licking constantly. She usually licks me all the time, and herself occasionally. Lately she’s been licking non stop. It’s awful. She’s also recently taken up scratching. I would tell her to stop, and then get very frustrated with her. I knew it couldn’t be fleas (we treat the entire zoo for fleas) or anything like that. I don’t know why I thought she was doing it. Maybe to annoy me.
Last night I noticed that she had some little bumps in her ears and they appeared to be red and slightly swollen. As I paid more attention, I realized she was scratching her ears more than anything else. So I told Kim to take her on in to the Vet and make sure nothing was wrong.
We found that she is allergic to something, causing the issues in her ears, which have now become infected. On top of that, she has some fleas. I was shocked/FURIOUS over the fleas. We treat with anti flea medication and it’s winter! So how in the hell does she have fleas? I can’t believe I was getting upset with her and it’s because we let her get flea bites. UGH! I hate that I didn’t do something sooner. She’s been uncomfortable and I’ve fussing at her. No more. Nothing but love for the Pug. I don’t care what she does (even puking on my foot during the night will be alright now).
The allergies are my fault too. We switched dog foods to a brand from Costco. All the other dogs are doing great with it. They’ll continue to eat the less expensive stuff. Pug is back to Iams. She’s off Peanut Butter now too (I share some with her at night).
Anyway, sorry Belle. I’ll be better pug parent from now on...
